Summer School 2023 of the Twinning Project GATHERS – Integration of Geodetic and imAging TecHniques for monitoring and modelling the Earths surface defoRmations and Seismic risk will be held from August 28 th to September 1st 2023, hosted by Delft University of Technology (TUDelft), the Netherlands. Department of Geoscience and Remote Sensing at Delft University of Technology will host a 2nd GATHERS Summer School in the last week of August 2023. The School topics will assemble theoretical and practical aspects in surface deformation monitoring built on the three main Earths observing methods explored within the GATHERS project:
- Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR)
- Light Detection and Ranging
- Global Navigation Satellite System
For a second time the GATHERS team is meeting to teach and lead young enthusiasts interested in investigating the Earths crust changes, provoked mainly by anthropogenic activities like resources extraction. Within a week a review of the theoretical basis for the three techniques will be draw with an emphasis on the specifics related with studying surface changes caused by extensive man-made works. The knowledge will be consolidated by specific examples and class works for analysing and processing real data. The trainees will also have the opportunity to work in teams on particular tasks aiming to enhance the abilities for critical analysis, to apply the newly-gain knowledge and to improve their synergy skills.
In addition, more details about the GATHERS MSc and PhD trainings on InSAR, LiDAR and GNSS seismology for studying the man-made hazards will be presented. The social part of the program includes guided tour of the historical center of the city of Delft.
The 2nd GATHERS Summer School lecturers team gathers notable specialists from:
- Delft University of Technology (TU Delft), Netherlands - Ramon Hanssen and Freek van Leijen,
- Sapienza University of Rome, Italy - Mattia Crespi and Augusto Mazzoni,
- Technical University of Vienna (TU Wien), Austria - Norbert Pfeifer and Camillo Ressl,
- Wroclaw University of Environmental and Life Sciences (UPWr), Poland - Jan Kapłon, Grzegorz Jóźków, Maya Ilieva and Kamila Pawłuszek-Filipiak.
