COSPAR Outstanding Paper Award for Young Scientists

Committee for Space Research (COSPAR) every two year nominates candidates under 31 years of age for the Outstanding Paper Awards amongst authors of papers published in COSPAR peer-reviewed scientific journals: Advances in Space Research and Life Sciences in Space Research. The current edition covers research papers submitted for publication within 2018-2020.

COSPAR Bureau, following recommendations of the Publications Committee, recognized the contribution of dr. Pawel Hordyniec to Space Studies of the Earth’s Surface, Meteorology and Climate (Scientific Commission A) and awarded him for the manuscript entitled “Simulation of liquid water and ice contributions to bending angle profiles in the radio occultation technique”.

Invitation to public PhD defense of Grzegorz Bury

The Discipline Council of Civil Engineering and Transport at the Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences invites for public defense of the doctoral dissertation of Grzegorz Bury. Dissertation title: "Precise orbit determination of GNSS satellites using microwave and laser ranging data".
The defense of the doctoral dissertation will take place on June 24, 2020 at 10.15 in remote mode. Access to the public part can be obtained by sending a request to: [email protected] by June 22, 2020.

Accurate utility demand forecasting with use of smartphone location data

Location data harvested from a mobile phone are a valuable source of information with many potential applications related to planning and management. Such application - a water demand prediction model - has been presented by a group of scientists from Institute of Geodesy and Geoinformatics and Institute of Environmental Engineering from Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences and University of Auckland, New Zealand. The study applied over seven millions of smartphone location data combined with historical water usage data. Datasets were integrated into the machine learning model, creating an accurate water demand forecasting model.
